UNHCR I Horn of Africa Emergency
Refugees and displaced families across the Horn of Africa are caught in a hunger crisis, and the dire situation in the region isn’t letting up. Over 23 million people in Ethiopia, Kenya, and Somalia alone are highly food insecure and face severe hunger and water shortages.
Help the Hardest Hit by Hunger today
We’ve all felt the impact of the global economic downturn and shockwaves of the war in Ukraine. But it is being felt in full force across the Horn of Africa, depleting its food supply and causing food prices to rise month on month. Conflict, drought and climate change have made food insecurity worse across the whole region of East Africa and families are being forced to flee.
Once they reach safety, they lack access to shelter, livelihoods, and social protection. In a hunger crisis like this one, it is refugees and displaced families who are most at risk. They are struggling to put food on the table.
UNHCR is on the ground delivering life-saving shelter, water, sanitation facilities, nutrition, healthcare, cash assistance, and protection to people forced to flee. Support is prioritized for the most vulnerable people, including women, girls, children, and the elderly.
